Lazy Daisies

I thought you might appreciate a glimpse into a Sunday on the hill. We all get a little lazy. Dog, who looked like she may have been out partying all night, wrapped her face in her leash and didn't wake up until mid-afternoon.  The hens, too lazy to make their way up to the coop, laid one egg in the fishing net on the porch, and another behind a piece of drywall leaning up against the house.

The predominant activity of the day, if you can call it "activity", is simply soaking up the sun.  Dog woke up long enough to go out and pee, and fell asleep in the grass. The hens are out front, catching rays and soaking up heat from the dryer vent.  An assortment of snakes are coiled near the warm cement of the front steps, and the rooster (who thinks the sun is simply a spotlight on his magnificence) is strutting proudly around the yard.

The humans of the place are doing a fair job of the same. Daughter was outside with her camera, making today's illustrations possible. Husband is sitting near the sunlit windows yelling at the hockey game on TV.  Me, I am writing, which is the first chance I've had to sit down all afternoon.  People forget that cooking a big Sunday dinner involves messes, and dishes, and more messes, and more dishes.  There's lemon-rosemary chicken in the oven, with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, and some spinach drizzled with organic garlic oil (see below for recipes, and where to get the yummy garlic oil!).
Oh, and a flourless chocolate cake, and some gluten-free granola bars cooling on a rack on the counter.
Ah, it smells like Sunday.
